About the Project:
In this school project, I conducted extensive research and developed an accessible pasta package design that caters to three key user groups: VI (users with impaired vision), ESL (users with English as a second language), and RD (users with restrictive diets). While the project required focusing on just one disability group, I chose to expand its scope, making the design more inclusive and adaptable for a wider audience.
Project Timeline:
January – February 2025
Project Ideas:
The project required selecting one disability group from VI, ESL and RD as the target audience and designing a pasta package set—including original, gluten-free, and whole wheat options—for them. Instead, I chose to expand the scope to include all three groups, conducting in-depth research on each.
For example, while the project only required considering French-speaking audiences for users with English as a second language, I expanded the scope to include all ESL users. For users with impaired vision, I took into account colour blindness, low vision, and blindness,
ensuring that all individuals could easily identify the pasta they need. An example of a complex scenario could involve an ESL user with low vision needing to easily identify the gluten-free pasta.
The research delved into each group, analyzing their unique circumstances and accessibility challenges. By identifying their pain points, understanding their specific needs, and developing targeted solutions, I used visual design to create a unified, inclusive packaging system that caters to all.
